.Recently, our laboratory manager, KARI BRADSHAW, and one of our histotechnologists, AMANDA HARRIS, traveled to the headquarters of Roche Diagnostics in Indianapolis, Indiana to complete an intensive training course on the COBAS Amplicore analyzer. This instrument uses the polymerase chain reaction to detect the presence of Neisseria gonorrhea (GC) and Chlamydia trachomatis in urine and liquid-based cervical cytology specimens. Both Kari and Amanda found the specimen preparation and handling portions of the course to extremely interesting. Northwest Medical Analytic Laboratory plans to begin testing on the COBAS Amplicore analyzer early this fall. Previously, these specimens were sent to a reference laboratory for testing. By offering GC and Chlamydia testing in-house, we will be able to maintain quality and provide faster turn around time for our patients and clients.
